Working Man

It is interesting to feel a change in your own behaviour when you return to a structured work environment. I am already beginning to remember why I was happy when I left in the first place. Seems like I have issues with having my time structured for me by someone else. Yet, in my German blood upbringing I am always on time, and do what I am told to do. Oh well, it's only for about 50 more days. I can deal.

On the positive side ,I am meeting new people from around the globe including this gentleman from mainland China. He is teaching me interesting things about his culture. His name is Fang, and he is from Shanghai.

this and that

So, I am looking at building a home studio. Or, as it also known a black hole in my garage!

But, I need to improve my recording and production capacity if I really want to get more serious about song writing, video production and recording. So many horror stories about home studios!!

Sunshine

Well the rain is gone for a few hours. Let the sunshine in.

There is nothing wrong with rainy, cold days. They remind me of my childhood.

But, a little sun shine does not hurt. So , I put on my vinyl version of "Here comes the sun", sigh deeply and dive into a new day. Hope yours is good.

picking up the pieces

Sometimes life deals you cards you just want to throw back on the table. It does not work that way. Just when you think you have a path planned out, the road curves and you have to take a detour. With the on set of years you wonder how many more detours and crossroads will you have to face. I don't believe the answer is even attainable. Until the day you take your last breath, nothing will go exactly as you envisioned it.

"Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans"

Amen Brother !
Price to Pay music and lyrics written and recorded by B.Kirby 2009
There have been changes all around You know my life's been turned upside down. But it's alright,Yes it's alright we all have to pay a price sometime, a price sometime. my cup it ain't empty there is still room to fill It ain't what I want, but I will do as you will, and it's alright, yes it's alright we all have to pay a price sometime. There is a reason for it all pride always comes before a fall now is the time to stand tall show me the way, the way through it all. The storm is still raging no rainbow in sight But I know your promise will keep me alive and that's alright, yes it's alright we all have to pay a price sometime, a price sometime. we all need to pay a price sometime...

remembering Janis

Onstage, I make love to 25,000 people, then I go home alone. People, whether they know it or not, like their blues singers miserable. They like their blues singers to die afterwards, well, to summarize, Big Brother is doing great and I just may be a "star" one day. You know, it's funny. As it gets closer and more probable, being a star is losing its meaning, But what ever it means I'm ready!--

Saturday

A day of doing some work on the new tune, making some pudding and doing a little soul searching. Just what the doctor ordered. I was just perusing some old literature and came across this little jewel..."When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross." -- Sinclair Lewis

Well said Mr.Lewis. Watching these orchestrated town hall mobs I see it already.

Bigotry and intolerance, silenced by argument, endeavors to silence by persecution, in old days by fire and sword, in modern days by the tongue .....!

Oh well, what do I know. I am just an old fashioned dyed in the wool liberal. And, proud of it!

Such deep thoughts on a warm Saturday. Have a great weekend world.

Seattle, Washington DC and New Orleans. I should not complain. But, I will. I am not ready for the summer to be over and the drudge of everyday starting up again. I guess it is time to re focus on the story and some new music. That will help me make it till next time I say bon voyage and head out to places new and old.
I hope everybody had a good summer.

Hot Monday

Worked on several domestic projects, as well a new song for Eric. With all the changes in my life I knew it was just a matter of time before the juices would flow ,and I would spit out some blues tune about them.

Working title is "Price to pay" and I hope to have a demo out in a few short days.

Today was just too hot to really get motivated to do much of anything.

Hope your day was good.

Got a prickling in my brain that tells me something cool is about to happen soon....!

moving time

Today I will be moving my Mother in Law's furniture and disolving the remnants of her solo life. She has moved into my guestroom for the unforeseeable future. She is 92 years old, physically sound but mentally fading fast. I believe my life is about to change drastically. Keep me in your thoughts.

On the brighter side of life I have an entire new chapter of GRB almost ready to publish! Drummers and keyboard players. What a special breed. God love 'em. Somebody needs to.

good day

I took my father to see his elderly bro 2 day. Good visit , tears of joy and frustration at the curse of aging, disease decay and dimentia.

"...take a sad song and make it better".

Just needed to say that.

Sometimes listening to the words coming from a mind slowly checking out, gives you some perspective on where you are and where you need to go .

I remember when I was a young lad going fishing with these two gentlemen and looking at them with the critical minds eye of a young man who has all the answers.

"...Mother Mary comes to me"

It's all good, I saw some real love and courage today.

Let it be.

new song on reverbnation

"Wastin' Time" Demo is posted....have a listen!

“Wastin’ time”
Words and music © B.Kirby

1. Yes we all know the feeling; there is more than we can do
But that’ really deceiving there is time enough for you
And all your planning and your scheming it will all catch up to you
Because we all have been giving time to do what we should do
Wastin’ time wasting time, wasting time wasting’ time.
It goes flying by don’t waste a minute wastin’ time.
2. Those days when you’re lonely, and things ain’t what they ought to be.
You’ll understand the reason, why time catches up to you
And leaves you clouded in confusion as no one listens to you
You left it all behind, the remnants of your mind
Wastin’ time wasting time, wasting time wastin’ time.
It goes flying by don’t waste a minute wasting time.
3. And before it’s too late, baby don’t you hesitate.
Do all you can do, and make your dreams all come true?
And don’t you throw them away so you don’t regret the day
You let them slip away and now your hair is turning gray
Wastin’ time wasting time, wasting time wastin’ time.
It goes flying by don’t waste a minute wasting time.

A nice diversion from humdrum existence

Soccer game: Chelsea FC vs Club America 2:0

At the new Cowboy stadium in Arlington,TX. - July 26 ,2009

JJ must be proud of that Monster. Impressive display of technology and construction. The Romans would have loved it for their games too. Give them Gladiators, beer and games and they'll be happy. Game was good though. Grandson enjoyed it almost as much as I did. Garth Brooks flipped the coin, and Jerry Jones presented the trophy after the match.

Working on a new song. A two step goodie called "Wasting time, wasten' time". Should be ready in a couple of days. Almost finished with another installment of "Garage Rock Blues" as well. Busy, busy, busy!

Take it slow, stay cool.

another journey

Just returned from a journey to Washington DC. Ironic, last week I was in Seattle, Washington. This week in the city of Washington. That's the place that has "taxation without representation."

No Senators to represent the people of DC. Does not seem fair. If you have not done so, check out my new music video ..Triviality.. on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EexMtyYs88M

Or on my Eric O'Twinkie page at:http://www.reverbnation.com/ericotwinkie

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and have a great 4th of July. Couple more summer trips coming up and then it is back to the writing project. I have dozens of anecdotes ready to put in story form. Just have to get motivated!

Peace

Garage Rock Blues continues

The next call we received was from a drummer. Several drummers as a matter of fact. They all called on the same day in response to the ad for bandmembers. We decided to have a cattle call audition. If you are not familiar with this process it is very simple. Tell them all an exact time to be there. Give each one three well known cover tunes to be prepared for and ask them to bring a minimal kit to expetide set up and tear down. Drummer one at six, drummer two at 7, drummer three at 8 and so on, you get the picture I'm sure. This presents a whole new set of issues and problems to deal with! We had five drummers scheduled for a saturday evening cattle call at my house for a change. I had a nice large rehearsal room all set up with a small PA and everything needed to make the auditions smooth, fast and painless. The only thing that I forgot to figure into my expectations of a quick painless evening were the drummers.

Country Song

Country Song

There ain’t no git up in my get along
That’s why I wrote this country song
And even though I don’t really know why
It makes all the cowgirls cry
There ain’t no git up in my get along
I hope to find some in this song
60 years have come and gone
I never wrote this kind of song
Now as the sun sets on the mountains
And the sky is turning red
I am following up on a promise
I once made to a dear old friend
I will write a country song
But not until I’m almost gone
Now I don’t know much about hauling hay
Or getting up at the crack of day
And Mr. Ed is the horse I know
Not birthing calves at live stock shows
Now cowboy up means nothing to me
Saddle sores I never wanna see
I am just doing my best doing what I can
To keep a promise once made man to man
There ain’t no git up in my get along
That’s why I wrote this country song
And even though I don’t really know why
It makes all the cowgirls cry
There ain’t no git up in my get along
I hope to find some in this song
Now that I’ve done what I said would
I hope you’re pleased and smiling down
You know this ain’t easy for me to say
But I really miss you in a special way
You did a lot but you did not know
You could bring peace to my troubled soul
There ain’t no git up in my get along
That’s why I wrote this country song
And even though I don’t really know why
It makes all the cowgirls cry
There ain’t no git up in my get along
I hope to find some in this song

Too old to rock ?

Too old to Rock too old to rap well I believe that’s just a load of crap
My Head explodes from the sounds inside no place to run no place to hide.
Now if you really do believe that years alone can make you obsolete
Then listen here to what I say and carry my message throughout the day
It ain’t about how old you are you don’t have to be a superstar
For if the music’s trapped in your head please let it out before your dead.
Say yea…
Black or white yellow brown or red it’s all up there right in your head
It doesn’t really matter what the bigot says we all turn to dust baby when were dead
Until that day don’t you hesitate play all your music before it’s too late
Say yea…
He man she man and all in between it does not really matter I don’t give a damn
Long as you can sing it or play it in a jam
Too old to rock too old to rap.
